The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award

Named after the late Australian artist Helen Lempriere, this Award is one of the richest prizes for sculptors in Australia. It bestows $80,000 cash and a $35,000 development package to the winner – a grant specifically designed to further their education and skill in sculpture. The Award is acquisitive and the winning artist’s sculpture must be suitable to become part of the Lempriere Collection. All winning sculptures are permanently sited at Parks Victoria’s Werribee Park.

Three Highly Commended Awards that are non-acquisitive are awarded to artists whose works are selected by the Judging Panel. These Awards grant $3000 to each Highly Commended artist.

The Judges’ Encouragement Award grants a prize of $1,000 to an emerging artist.

The Wyndham City Council supports an Acquisition up to the value of $35,000 by acquiring a sculpture it considers an appropriate addition to its Public Art collection. The Council has acquired six works over the years and their placement in public locations throughout the city enables residents and visitors to enjoy sculpture all year round.

The Popular Choice Award is non-acquisitive and grants a prize of $5,000 to the artist whose work is chosen as most favoured by visitors to the exhibition. This Award is presented at the conclusion of the Finalists’ exhibition.
